Content Online Supporting the World Vision Kati Project in Uganda
Over 1,200 children in the Kati Sub County of Arua District have been orphaned or left vulnerable because of the high incidence of HIV/AIDS the community faces. To support these children a special project has been created. The Kati Area Development Programme (ADP) and World Vision Uganda (WVU) will work together to implement this project.
The goal of this project is to contribute to the reduction of HIV/AIDS and its effects within Kati Sub County. To reduce the impact of human suffering and increase the coping capacity of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS with a special focus on the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVCs), adolescents and women. WVU’s experience and surveys recently conducted have revealed that OVCs and families affected by HIV/AIDS have a variety of needs ranging from education, psychosocial, and health. This project will scale up the care and support of these children and HIV/AIDS affected families so as to improve their quality of life.
The project will also focus on strengthening the caring and coping capacities of families and care givers, to enhance the capacity of families and communities to respond to the psychosocial needs of the OVCs, support schools and ensure access to education and health services for OVCs, reduced stigma and discrimination of the OVCs and finally strengthen partners and partnerships at all levels and build coalition among key stakeholders. All these implementations will help improve the living conditions of these OVCs.

The above objective will be achieved by the following activities: 1. The creation and support of a Community Care Coalition. 2. The promotion of psychosocial support. 3. The provision of education support and basic health care for OVCs. 4. The promotion of spiritual support and nurturing for OVCs. 5. The promotion of local level advocacy and encouragement of Child Protection Policy implementation.
This project will directly target 1,200 OVCs, over 300 caregivers and members of the newly formed coalition, but will benefit all children in schools and homes in one way or another and many adults. The total budget for the three years will be £43,220.
